Transforming Organizational Performance through Coaching: Highlights from The AMSIH-HHRMA Conference

Jakarta, November 23, 2024 – The Hotel Human Resource Management Association (HHRMA) convened its gathering at Hotel Mövenpick, Jakarta, uniting professionals and thought leaders from the hospitality industry for a day of networking, knowledge exchange, and strategic discussions. Among the diverse sessions, a presentation by Ananta Dewandhono, CEO of Vanaya Indonesia, stood out for its focus on how coaching can transform organizational performance.

Coaching for Organizational Performance

During the event, Ananta Dewandhono captivated the audience with his presentation titled "Coaching for Organizational Performance," offering a comprehensive exploration of coaching as a transformative tool for individuals and organizations alike.

Ananta began by defining coaching as "a goal-focused approach to empower and transform people by asking open-ended questions," designed to help individuals "reach their goals by unlocking and awakening potentials, discovering their true selves, and optimizing performance." He contrasted coaching with other methodologies such as counseling, advising, directing, interrogating, training, and mentoring, presenting a diagram to illustrate the distinctions.

The presentation introduced three levels of coaching quality, highlighting the progression from basic solution creation to deeper levels that align personal values with purpose.

The presentation underscored the importance of coaching in leadership, positioning it as a cornerstone of transformational leadership. "Coaching empowers and motivates individuals, enabling leaders to inspire improved performance across their teams," Ananta explained.

Lastly, he highlighted coaching’s role in fostering inside-out transformation, starting with self-awareness and leading to meaningful growth. A visually engaging diagram illustrated the journey from knowing to understanding and ultimately becoming, encapsulating the essence of personal and professional development through coaching.

This thought-provoking session left attendees with actionable insights and a deeper appreciation for the strategic value of coaching in today’s dynamic organizational landscape.

A Dynamic Exchange of Ideas

The gathering also featured a talk show, where Ananta Dewandhono joined Alexander Nayoan, Learning & Development Specialist from HHRMA, for an engaging dialogue moderated by Albertha Sekundarti.

The session explored workforce challenges and the role of kinds of leadership in addressing skills gaps and fostering resilience and growth. Alexander highlighted the importance of continuous development, stating, "Hospitality is a people-centric business. Investing in our teams through many kinds of leadership whether directing or coaching cultivates a culture of excellence."

The audience responded enthusiastically, contributing their insights and sharing experiences from their respective organizations.

Forging New Partnerships

The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Vanaya Indonesia and HHRMA, represented by Albertha Sekundarti. The agreement focuses on collaboration in education and community engagement, with initiatives like:

  • Veltica Academy, aimed at HR training and development.
